When a franchise centerpiece openly protects a teammate from blockbuster trade discussions, it dramatically shifts the front office’s flexibility.
The financial side now creates even more tension. Reaves has one year remaining on his contract and is eligible for an extension. Earlier statements from his agent indicated they would pursue the largest possible deal available. Reports suggest he could become eligible for a five-year contract worth up to $240 million. Rival executives reportedly believe Reaves may seek an annual salary close to $40 million if outside offers emerge.
